Meet The Founder

Ebony B. Cummings is the founder and co-owner of Barbie’s Garden of Hope, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing love, care, and support to families affected by cancer. Inspired by the life and legacy of her mother, Rachel M. Gardiner-Cummings (affectionately known as Barbie), Ebony created the organization as a way to carry forward her mother’s enduring spirit of compassion and service.

Ebony grew up in a family where love and unity were central values. After losing her mother to breast cancer in 2018, Ebony was deeply moved by the profound impact her mother had on their family and community. Witnessing how loved ones came together during her mother’s illness offering emotional support, meals, and companionship. Ebony realized that not every family has a network to lean on in such trying times.

To fill that gap, Ebony founded Barbie’s Garden of Hope, with a mission to provide essential support to families caring for loved ones with cancer. Through the organization, Ebony honors her mother’s legacy by offering resources, care packages, emotional companionship, and basic necessities to ease the burden for families across the globe.

In hopes to develop the organization to lean more towards overall health and wellness, Ebony is passionately committed to promoting wellness in Liberia, her mother’s birthplace. Through the organization, she aims to extend healthcare resources, emotional support, and wellness initiatives to Liberian communities, ensuring that people in her ancestral homeland receive the care they need during difficult times.

Ebony is also the host of The EbB and Flow, a podcast where she explores topics around defining purpose, navigating the flow of life, and the intersection of art, culture, and storytelling. She is driven by a deep belief that art, culture, and community are powerful forces for healing and transformation. Being multifaceted she also designs and sells garments with fabric she sources from Monrovia, Liberia, another reason she is devoted to giving back to the liberian community.

With Barbie’s Garden of Hope, Ebony seeks to ensure that no one faces the challenges of illness alone, while also advancing her mission of wellness and support in Liberia, She continues to explore different treatment options, natural remedies, and mental health resources and plans to advance her studies in cancer research to better serve and uplift those in need.
