The love that Barbie poured into her loved ones truly impacted her family to come together for her support. She grew up in a large family of 15 siblings, many nieces and nephews, and had 2 children of her own, who were very hands on with making sure her needs were met during her treatment. While going through this challenging period her daughter realized something. While trying to emotionally process her mother’s declining health, attending college and working a full-time job the weight grew heavy. However as time went by, she had the support of family members. She was now able to cut her hours at work and focus on her mother and school. The family rallied together and took on different roles, some would bring her food, some would bring cases of water, some would sit with her for company when her husband and daughters were away. They also took turns driving her to treatment and some would even purchase comfortable garments to wear around the house. These helping hands allowed such a difficult process ease the weight that had been on Barbie’s husband and children’s shoulders. They couldn’t imagine what it would have been like without the help of everyone. Although Barbie lost her battle with cancer on her birthday May 28th of 2018 her daughters wanted to keep her legacy alive; the legacy of the love she gave. Most families may not have support in such times. Barbie’s Garden of hope would love to provide these everyday needs and care for families across the global.
